Laryngectomy Patient School Held in Stavropol

On June 26, an in-person Laryngectomy Patient School was held in Stavropol — an educational and support-focused event for individuals undergoing rehabilitation after surgical treatment of laryngeal diseases.

Such meetings help patients not only receive up-to-date information from healthcare professionals but also connect with others, share experiences, and discuss challenges related to adaptation and recovery. Many participants have been attending the school for several years, highlighting the importance of this format for addressing everyday concerns and receiving psychological support.

One of the event’s experts was Evgeniya V. Zhuravel, surgical oncologist, who answered participants’ questions and provided detailed insights into life after laryngectomy.

Practical Aspects of Rehabilitation

During the meeting, participants discussed topics that are particularly relevant in everyday rehabilitation, including:

• care and maintenance of voice prostheses;
• causes of voice prosthesis leakage and ways to address this issue;
• indications for and use of tracheostomy tubes;
• proper care of rehabilitation devices;
• selection of consumables for daily use.
